Bug Repellent

Beautyberry Leaf Bug Repellent

Ingredients:

  • Beautyberry Leaves
  • Alcohol- such as rubbing alcohol or vodka
  • Basil oil
  • Peppermint oil

Instructions:

Stuff a jar with beautyberry leaves and cover with alcohol. Leave in a dark area and shake occasionally for a few days or until ready to filter into a spray bottle. One can choose to add whatever essential oil smell is desired; for me, I chose smells that will enhance my protection and provide a refreshing initial scent that does not linger.

The bug spray helps to keep away mosquitoes, chiggers, fire ants, ticks, deer flies, horse flies, whiteflies, house flies, and even snakes!

Fun Fact: Snakes are irritated by the strong smell of peppermint and will evacuate the area.

Fun Fact 2: Basil not only repels mosquitos but also irritates flies.

Shew fly, don’t bother me!

This spray makes an excellent companion for those that like to be in nature, especially deep nature. I crafted this spray for my family for when we go walking in our woods (We call it our Labrynth). It is not only effective but also not overpowering in smell. I am not fond of the overpowering smell of DEET or how it makes me feel like I am standing in a chemical cloud. The aeration of the Repellent makes it like a lite refreshing mist that only has a short window of smell before you forget that it is on. Meanwhile, it continues to work for hours. Good to have on hand for a trail walk in nature, pasture bonfire with friends, or a kids’ outdoor sporting event!
